AJR, trio indie-pop di New York, arriva in radio da venerdì 5 maggio con una nuova versione della hit virale “Weak” (Stay Strong Mix), che vede il featuring della cantautrice britannica vincitrice di X Factor UK Louisa Johnson. Il brano anticipa l’album di debutto del gruppo, ‘The Click’, in uscita il 9 giugno su etichetta Black Butter Records (Zara Larsson, DJ Khaled, Rudimental).

La costante crescita di AJR negli scorsi mesi è stata a dir poco sorprendente. Con la straordinaria cifra di oltre 167 milioni di stream totali su Spotify a livello mondiale fino ad oggi, “Weak” è stata recentemente certificata ORO. Il pezzo è accompagnato da un video diretto da Shane Gun (Taylor Swift, Fall Out Boy, Paramore) che ha superato i 5 milioni di visualizzazioni su YouTube in un solo mese. Le partecipazioni a The Today Show negli Stati Uniti, il supporto da parte di Demi Lovato e dei Train, un tour negli Stati Uniti sold out e perfino una performance alla Casa Bianca da Obama (a sostegno della campagna IT’S ON contro la violenza sessuale) hanno consolidato il trio come uno dei gruppi emergenti del 2017 a livello internazionale..

Parlando della nuova versione del brano, gli AJR spiegano: “Louisa ci ha contattato dicendoci che era fan della canzone. La conoscevamo dalla collaborazione nel disco dei Clean Bandit e ci piaceva molto la sua voce Quando ci ha chiesto se ci poteva interessare creare una versione con il suo featuring, siamo stati contenti di realizzarla. Speriamo che piaccia a tutti”.

AJR inizia la sua carriera suonando a Central Park, come altri eclettici artisti del calibro di Vampire Weekend, Kanye West and The Beach Boys. La svolta avviene quando il gruppo twitta un link con il suo singolo di debutto a Sia, che se ne innamorata immediatamente e li contattata vedendo in loro del potenziale per far ascoltare la loro musica su più ampia scala rispetto alla panchina del parco a cui erano abituati. I tre pubblicano quindi l’EP d’esordio “I’m Ready, raccogliendo rapidamente un grande seguito negli Stati Uniti e ricevendo apprezzamenti dalla critica, tra cui Billboard e The New York Post.
